Discover Your Why
"The Guiding Singularity" lesson focuses on identifying and articulating the unique values that serve as the district's moral compass. This section challenges participants to connect their district's core values with specific moments and decisions, illustrating how these values shape the district's identity and direction.
As the facilitator, your role is to guide participants in deeply exploring and articulating how their district's core values influence its path. You'll help them connect abstract values to concrete examples and decisions, making these values tangible and actionable.
- Aid in Identifying the Compass: Guide participants to recognize what makes their district unique, beyond policies and strategies. Discuss how these values shape the district's approach to education, community engagement, and innovation. Ask questions like, "Can you give an example of how these values influenced a recent decision or policy?"
- Encourage Comprehensive Understanding: Ensure participants understand the importance of each value as a coordinate on the district's journey. Remind them to think about how these values will continue to guide the district, especially as they proceed to the next sections of their 'WHY' statement.
- Assist in Using the 3-Tabbed Info Box: Help participants effectively use the 3-tabbed info box for moments 1, 2, and 3. Encourage them to draw direct correlations between specific events, their significance, and the related core values.
- Guide the Writing Process: As participants work on defining their district's Guiding Singularity, support them in articulating how their core values shape the district's unique identity and journey. Encourage them to envision their district as a guiding light in the community, and how this vision is rooted in their core values.
Now, let's steer towards the next crucial element of your district's 'why' statement: The Guiding Singularity. This is all about uncovering your district's unique moral compass. It's not merely about policies and procedures; it’s about the underlying beliefs and values that guide your district's journey.
- Reflect on the Correlations: Revisit the key moments and core values you've pinpointed. Think about how the correlation between the moments and values actively guide your district's decisions and actions.
- Identifying the Compass: Let’s identify what makes your district stand out. How do these values shape the direction your district is taking? Consider how they influence your approach to education, community engagement, and innovation.
- Journey Forward: As you move on from here to further develop your 'WHY', hold onto these insights. Each value is a coordinate on a map leading to a more meaningful and distinct path. Keep these values in mind as you progress to the next phase, 'The Impact'.
