In the "Your First Draft" lesson, participants will synthesize the insights from previous exercises to create the initial draft of their district's 'why' statement. This step is crucial in combining the essence, guiding principles, and envisioned impact into a unified narrative.
As the facilitator, your role is to assist participants in integrating their discoveries to craft a compelling and authentic 'why' statement. Encourage them to focus on clarity, authenticity, and capturing the unique spirit of their district.
- Facilitate Integration of Discoveries: Encourage participants to review and reflect on their work from 'The Reason for Existence', 'The Guiding Singularity', and 'The Impact'. Guide them to see how these elements can harmoniously illustrate their district's unique story.
- Aid in Crafting the Narrative: Support participants in blending their insights into a cohesive narrative that resonates with their district's identity. Encourage them to focus on creating a narrative that captures the essence, direction, and aspirations of their district.
- Use the 4-Tabbed Info Box: Assist participants in utilizing the 4-tabbed info box, which includes the three key elements and the significant moments, as references for their draft. Encourage them to draw upon these tabs to ensure their 'WHY' statement is rooted in the core values, significant moments, and the envisioned impact.
- Emphasizing Authenticity Over Perfection: Remind participants that this is a first draft, and it's an evolving part of their district's story. Encourage them to focus on authenticity and clarity rather than striving for perfection in their first attempt.
- Providing Support and Feedback: Offer constructive feedback on their drafts, focusing on how well the statement captures the district's identity and aspirations. Be available to answer questions, offer suggestions, and help participants articulate their thoughts more clearly.
